Hon. Lady Justice Mary Chitalu Mulanda

 

PROFILE

Hon. Lady Justice Mary Chitalu Mulanda is a Judge of the High Court. She was appointed to the High Court on 29th October, 2010.  Justice Mulanda holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zambia and a Master of Laws degree from the University of the West Indies in Barbados. She was admitted to the Bar in 1986.

Prior to her current appointment, Justice Mulanda served as a Legislative Drafting Consultant under the Commonwealth Secretariat in the Attorney General’s Chambers in the Kingdom of Swaziland from 2007 to 2010. Justice Mulanda also served as a Legislative Drafter (and retained the title of Assistant Attorney General) in the Attorney General’s Chambers in the Republic of Botswana from 2006 to 2007. Prior to that, she was, from 2002 to 2006, employed by the Commonwealth Secretariat, on Technical Assistance to the Attorney General’s Chambers in the Republic of Botswana and was given the Post of Assistant Attorney General. From 1997 to 2002, she served as a Principal Legal Drafter in the Ministry of Justice in the Republic of Namibia.  Justice Mulanda also served in various positions in the then Ministry of Legal Affairs, now the Ministry of Justice. She served as Acting Chief Parliamentary Counsel in 1996, Parliamentary Counsel from 1988 to 1996 and State Advocate from 1986 to 1988.

Justice Mulanda is a member of the Zambia Association of Women Judges and the Commonwealth Association of Legislative Counsel.
