Hon. Mrs Justice Koreen Etambuyu Mwenda-Zimba is a Judge of the High Court, Commercial Division. She was appointed Judge of the High Court on 7th March, 2019. Justice Mwenda-Zimba holds a Master of Laws Degree in Corporate and Commercial Law from ZCAS University and a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Zambia. In her final year of study at the University of Zambia, she obtained a Senate award as the “Best Graduating Student in Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms” at the University’s Graduation Ceremony of June, 2006. She was admitted to the Bar in 2007.
She is a qualified legislative drafter having obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legislative Drafting from the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education in 2012. She is an alumnus of Munali Secondary School where she was appointed School Head girl in her final year of study.
Hon. Justice Mwenda-Zimba joined the Judiciary as a Senior Research Advocate in 2013. She worked as a Senior Research Advocate in the Supreme Court between 2013 and 2016. She was then promoted to the position of Registrar of the High Court, Commercial Division, a position she held from 2016 to 2019.
Before Joining the Judiciary, Hon. Justice Zimba worked for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for seven years. During her stay at ACC, she rose to the rank of Senior Legal and Prosecutions Officer. She was also appointed State Advocate for purposes of handling civil matters on behalf of the Attorney-General. While at ACC, she presented papers at various fora, notable among these, was a presentation on the topic “Mutual Legal Assistance in Corruption Matters: the Zambian perspective”. This was at the International Association for Anti-Corruption Agencies, (IAACA) Annual Meeting held in Macau, China in November, 2010. Further, Justice Mwenda-Zimba was, in August, 2011, awarded with the attribute of the “Most Honest Employee” in recognition of valuable contribution to productivity of the Anti-Corruption Commission.
Hon. Justice Mwenda-Zimba is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators as well as a Member of the Zambia Association of Women Judges. She is also a co-author of the first ever Case Management Desk Guide for Honourable Judges of the High Court.
