The 19th, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th April 2018 are days that shall forever remain engraved on the walls of the legal fraternity in Zambian history when the Hon. Chief Justice of the Republic of Zambia, Hon. Lady Justice Irene C. Mambilima, sitting with various Hon. Justices of the Superior courts called and admitted to the Bar a total of 312 Advocates, 31 of whom are members of staff of the Judiciary of Zambia. The 312 Advocates who hail from various local and international learning institutions represented a 51% pass mark of those who sat for the Legal Practitioner’s Qualifying Examination (LPQE) in December 2017.
In her speech, the Hon. Chief Justice congratulated the newly admitted advocates on their achievement and reminded them that the oath they had taken was an embodiment of the ideals by which a lawyer promises to abide in the practice of the legal profession. She also said that “It also represents the fundamental principles that guide every member of the legal fraternity. By the oath or affirmation, you accept a higher calling to uphold the Constitution, to respect the rule of law and become an instrument in the furtherance of the administration of justice”.
Her Ladyship quoted The Supreme Court of the Philippines, in underpinning the essence of taking the oath, in the case of SEBASTIAN V CALLIS where it was said that;
“The oath to which all lawyers have subscribed in solemn agreement to dedicate themselves to the pursuit of justice is not a mere ceremony or formality for practicing law to be forgotten afterwards; nor is it mere words, adrift and hollow, but a sacred trust that lawyers must uphold and keep inviolable at all times. By swearing the lawyers’ oath, they become guardians of the truth and the rule of law, as well as instruments in the fair and impartial dispensation of justice.”

Kabuka JS, Hon. Mr. Justice N. Mutuna JS, Hon. Lady Justice A. Sitali, Hon. Lady Justice M. Mulenga, Hon. Lady Justice F. Chisanga, the Hon. Judge President- Constitutional Court, Hon. Mr. Justice M.Chitabo SC , and Hon. Mr. Justice M. Zulu.
Other dignitaries who accompanied her Ladyship during the monumental admission of advocates to the Bar were the Right Hon. Mr. Likando Kalaluka SC-Attorney General, Mr. Eddie Mwitwa- LAZ President, Mrs. Anne Malata Ononoju- ZIALE Director, Mr. Chibuye- ZIALE Deputy Director, Mr. Mulilo Kabesha- Convener of the Legal Practitioner’s Council, and Hon. Charles Kafunda – Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.
