PROFILE
Hon. Mr. Justice William Smith Mweemba is a Judge of the High Court, Family and Children’s Division. He was appointed to the High Court on 17th January, 2014. Justice Mweemba holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zambia. He was admitted to the bar in 1981.
Prior to his current appointment, Justice Mweemba served as the Judge-in-Charge of the High Court, Industrial Relations Division from 2019 to 2020 and the Judge-in-Charge of the High Court, Commercial Division from 2017 to 2019. Justice Mweemba served as Managing Partner at Mweemba Chashi and Partners from 2004 to 2014. He also served as Legal Counsel and later as Chief Legal Counsel at Barclays Bank Zambia PLC from 1984 to 2004. From 1982 to 1984, Justice Mweemba served as State Advocate at the then Ministry of Legal Affairs.
Justice Mweemba served as the President of the Law Association of Zambia from 2004 to 2007. He also served as a member of the Council of the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education from 2003 to 2006,
Justice Mweemba served on the Board of Trustees of the National Pension Scheme Authority Staff Pension Fund from 2001 to 2014.
He is a member of a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and he is the current Chairperson of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Zambia branch.
