Hon. Lady. Justice Abha Nayar Patel, SC is a Judge of the Supreme Court, appointed on 27th May 2026. Prior to her current appointment, she served as a Judge of the Court of Appeal, having been appointed to that Court on 3rd April 2023.
Justice Patel holds a Master of Laws degree from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zambia. She was admitted to the Bar in 1989 and also to the Roll of Solicitors of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in April 2008.
Prior to her appointment to the Court of Appeal, she served as Judge-in-Charge of the Commercial Division at the Kitwe High Court. She was appointed Judge of the High Court on 7th March 2019.
Justice Patel was conferred with the rank and status of State Counsel in 2016. She is the Chairperson of the Chief Justice’s Advisory Committee on Court Annexed Mediation and Delay Reduction, a qualified Mediator, a trainer of Mediators, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Justice Patel is also a member of the Zambia Association of Women Judges.
