Hon. Lady Justice Irene Inonge Zeko Mbewe is a Judge of the Court of Appeal, appointed on 27th May 2026. Prior to her current appointment, she served as a Judge of the Commercial Division of the High Court at Lusaka.
Justice Mbewe was appointed Judge of the High Court on 8th December 2015. She holds a Master of Laws Degree from the University of the West Indies in Legislative Drafting as well as a Master of Laws Degree in Environmental Law and Policy from the University of Kent. Justice Mbewe holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Zambia. She was admitted to the Bar in 1987.
Prior to her judicial appointment, Justice Mbewe served as a Partner at Bemvi Associates from 2006 to 2015. She practised as a Partner at I. Z. Mbewe and Associates and also worked at Verity and May Chambers from 1996 to 2004. Her early legal career included working as an Advocate at Mbaluku Sikazwe and Company from 1987 to 1988.
Justice Mbewe served as a Legal Officer at the Environmental Council of Zambia from 1994 to 1996, and as Assistant Parliamentary Draftsperson and State Advocate in the Ministry of Justice. She also served as Vice Chairperson of the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) from 2012 to 2015.
She has sat on various boards such as those of the Zambia Railways Limited, the Central Board of Health, the Energy Regulation Board, and the Ndola Central Hospital Board of Management.
Justice Mbewe is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Zambia Association of Women Judges.
