Local Government Code Of Ethics Tribunal Takes Oath

 

 

Lusaka, August 2024 – The Hon. Mr. Justice Geoffrey Chilufya Mulenga, Judge of the High Court, presided over the swearing-in ceremony of the three members of an ad-hoc Local Government Code of Ethics Tribunal on Tuesday, 20th  August 2024. This tribunal was constituted by the Hon. Chief Justice, Dr. Mumba Malila, SC, in accordance with Article 159 of the Constitution of Zambia and Section 54 of the Local Government Act.

During his address, Mr. Justice Mulenga extended his congratulations to the newly sworn-in members and emphasized the importance of their understanding of the legal frameworks governing elections and the code of conduct therein. He noted, “You must always remember that the law sets the parameters within which you must operate. When called upon to determine the legality or otherwise of decisions made by the council, apply the law accordingly.”

The tribunal, which comprises judiciary staff and is chaired by Kabwe’s Resident Magistrate, Mr. Liswaniso Wamundila, is scheduled to hold its first sitting in Ngweshi Ward, Kalulushi District, Copperbelt Province. Other members of the tribunal are Ms. Anastasia Alinafe Lungu and Ms. Agatha Misozi Musukwa.
