Hon. Mr. Justice Chalwe Farai Ralph Mchenga, SC

 

PROFILE

Hon. Mr. Justice Chalwe Farai Ralph Mchenga, SC, is a Judge of the Supreme Court, appointed on 27th May 2026. Before his current position, he served as Deputy Judge President of the Court of Appeal, appointed on 13th June 2016.

Justice Mchenga holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zambia and was admitted to the Bar in 1990.

He was conferred with the rank and status of State Counsel on 18 August 2009.

Prior to his appointment to the Court of Appeal, Justice Mchenga served as a Judge of the High Court General Division from 2011 to 2016.

His career in public prosecutions includes service as Director of Public Prosecutions from 2004 to 2011. Since joining the Directorate of Public Prosecutions in 1995, he rose through the ranks, serving as Chief State Advocate from 2001 to 2004, Senior State Advocate from 1998 to 2001, and State Advocate from 1995 to 1998.

Earlier in his career, he served as Legal Aid Counsel in the Directorate of Legal Aid from 1992 to 1995 and as a Research Fellow with the Zambia Law Development Commission from 1991 to 1992.

Justice Mchenga has also contributed to legal education and professional development as an Honorary Lecturer in Criminal Procedure at the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE) since 2008. He also holds a certificate in Teaching Methodology from the Technical Vocational Teachers College (TVTC) in Luanshya and has undergone training in Commercial Mediation and Plea Bargaining with the Pepperdine Sudreau Global Justice Institute.
