PROFILE
Hon. Lady Justice Maureen Samulela Tresha was appointed Judge of the High Court on 27th May 2026. Before ascending to the Bench, she served as the Managing Partner at Sepo Legal Practitioners from June 2021, while concurrently serving as a part-time Lecturer in Domestic Relations at the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE) from 2019 and as a Commissioner of the Small Claims Court from 2012.
Justice Tresha holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Management Report, Quality and Systems Management, and Business Environment from Cavendish University, and a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Zambia. She was admitted to the Bar in 1999.
She also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Legislative Drafting from ZIALE, a professional training certificate in Gender and Peace Building from the Centre for Conflict Resolution in South Africa, and a certificate in Project Monitoring and Evaluation obtained through the Legal Aid Clinic for Women in conjunction with Cavendish University.
Justice Tresha began her legal career at Miyanda and Associates from December 1999 to September 2001. She then worked as an Advocate at the Legal Resources Foundation from August 2001 to May 2005. She thereafter transitioned into the corporate regulatory sector as Legal Counsel and Board Secretary for the Pensions and Insurance Authority from June 2005 to 2008. Concurrently, she served as a part-time tutor of the Law of Torts and later as a tutor in Arbitration at the University of Zambia from January 2005 to June 2008.
Justice Tresha joined the National Legal Aid Clinic for Women as a Legal Officer in 2008 before being elevated to Senior Legal Officer in 2009, and served as Acting Chief Executive Officer from September 2008 to May 2010.
She worked as an Advocate at CL Mundia & Company from May 2010 to June 2012, and thereafter as an Advocate for the International Justice Mission (IJM) from 2012 to 2014. From July 2014 to June 2021, she served as the National Director for Women and Law in Southern Africa (WLSA), managing programmatic administration and strategic legal research.
Justice Tresha also served as a Commissioner on the Commission of Inquiry on Voting Patterns and Electoral Violence from 2016 to 2017, and as a part-time Board Member providing legal guidance to the House of Moses orphanage since 2016 and Disability Rights Watch since 2020. She also represented the Law Association of Zambia on the Audit Committee of the ZIALE Board from 2015 to 2022, served as a Member of the ZIALE Board of Examiners, as well as the National Coordinator for One Billion Rising from 2014 to May 2026.
