The Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa facilitated a
Workshop for Judges of the High Court on “ELECTORAL JUSTICE AND THE 2016
PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION PETITIONS: LESSONS LEARNT AND THE WAY FORWARD FOR
ZAMBIA” held in Lusaka at Twangale Park on Friday, February 3rd, 2017.
The workshop which was officiated by His Honor Mr. Justice M.S.
Mwanamwambwa, Deputy Chief Justice of the Republic of Zambia, was attended
by 29 High Court Judges, Officials from the Electoral Institute for
Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA), the British Council, the Zambia
Accountability Project and independent political consultants, and members
of the press.
In his opening remarks, His Honor Mr. Justice M.S. Mwanamwambwa commended
EISA, the organisers of the workshop for organizing an event that resonated
with the Judiciary’s programme of continuing professional development for
adjudicators and support staff, and hoped that the workshop was the
beginning of long lasting collaboration between the two institutions.
“The workshop is not only timely, but essential, providing a platform for
Judges to conduct a postmortem of the hearing and determinations of the
parliamentary election petitions arising from the 11th August 2016
elections”, His Honor Mr. Justice M.S. Mwanamwambwa said.
