Hon. Mr. Justice Butler Asimbuyu Sitali was appointed Judge of the Supreme Court of Zambia on 27th May 2026. Prior to his appointment, he was a Legal Practitioner in private practice at Messrs Butler and Company Legal Practitioners from 2013 to 2026.
Justice Sitali holds a Master of Laws degree specialising in Banking Law from the University of South Africa, a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zambia, a Postgraduate Diploma in Corporate Governance from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), United Kingdom, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legislative Drafting from the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE). He was admitted to the Bar in 1987.
Before entering private practice, Justice Sitali served as Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) from 2010 to 2013. Prior to this, he served as Authority Secretary at the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) from 2009 to 2010.
His earlier appointments include serving as Board Secretary and Chief Legal Counsel at the Energy Regulation Board from 2005 to 2009, Authority Secretary and Legal Counsel at the Zambia Wildlife Authority from 2002 to 2005, Bank Secretary and Legal Counsel at Cavmont Merchant Bank Limited from 1997 to 2002, and Company Secretary and Legal Counsel at TAP Building Products from 1992 to 1997.
Justice Sitali began his legal career as a Captain in the Zambia Air Force and rose through the ranks to serve as Director of Legal Services from 1987 to 1992.
