Hon. Mr. Justice Charles Zulu – Deputy Judge President – Court Of Appeal

 

 

PROFILE

Hon. Mr. Justice Charles Zulu was appointed Deputy Judge President of the Court of Appeal on 27th May 2026. Prior to his current appointment, he served as Judge-in-Charge of the General Division of the Lusaka High Court.

Justice Zulu was appointed Judge of the High Court on 11th May 2016. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zambia, and was admitted to the Bar in 2004.

Prior to his appointment to the High Court, Justice Zulu served as Registrar of the Supreme Court and Special Assistant (Legal) to the Chief Justice from 2014 to 2016.

Justice Zulu has served in various positions in the Judiciary since 2003, beginning as a Magistrate Class II. He later served as Resident Magistrate at the Lusaka Subordinate Court, Senior Resident Magistrate at Chingola Subordinate Court, Principal Resident Magistrate at Kitwe Subordinate Court, Chief Resident Magistrate at Kitwe Subordinate Court, and Deputy Registrar at the Kitwe High Court from 2009 to 2014.

Justice Zulu also served as Secretary to the Council of Law Reporting Editorial Board, Deputy Director of the Judicial Centre of Excellence, and Coordinator for the Southern African Chief Justices Forum (SACJF), a forum of Chief Justices from 16 countries drawn from the Southern and Eastern regions of Africa.
