Hon. Mr. Justice Chimuka Mutafela was appointed Judge of the High Court on 27th May 2026, after having served as Registrar of the High Court at Ndola from August 2023.
Justice Mutafela holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the Zambian Open University and a Magistrates Diploma from the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA). He also holds an Advanced Certificate in General Principles of Law and a Certificate in General Principles of Law from the University of Zambia (UNZA). He was admitted to the Bar on 22nd May 2015.
Justice Chimuka joined the Judiciary of Zambia in 2001 as an Assistant Court Clerk at the Kitwe Local Court, where he served until 2005. He was appointed Magistrate Class III at the Samfya Subordinate Court in 2007 and rose through the ranks to serve as Magistrate Class II in 2009 and Magistrate Class I in 2012. He was then transferred to serve in the same capacity at the Kabwe Subordinate Court from 2013 to 2015.
In 2015, he was appointed Resident Magistrate at the Monze Subordinate Court, where he served until 2018. From 2018 to 2021, he served as Senior Resident Magistrate at the Kasama Subordinate Court while serving as District Registrar. He was later appointed Principal Resident Magistrate at the Kabwe Subordinate Court in 2021, a position he held until 2023 while serving as District Registrar.
His professional training includes a Gender-Based Violence Case Management Workshop for Subordinate Court Magistrates, a course in Child Protection, specialised Gender-Based Violence training for Magistrates, a workshop on Leadership for Gender Equality, and a training programme on the fight against HIV/AIDS from a legal perspective.
