PROFILE
Hon. Lady Justice Ruth Hachitapika Chibbabbuka is a Judge of the Court of Appeal, appointed on 27th May 2026. Prior to this appointment, she served as a Judge of the High Court, to which she was appointed on 7th March 2019.
Justice Chibbabbuka holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zambia, a Master of Science degree in Sustainable Mineral Resource Development from the same institution, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legislative Drafting from the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education. She was admitted to the Bar on 12th May 2000.
Prior to her appointment to the Bench, Justice Chibbabbuka served as Senior Research Advocate and District Registrar in the Judiciary from 2013 to 2019.
Her legal career includes experience in the corporate and banking sectors, where she served at Barclays Bank Zambia PLC as Conformance Manager from 2010 to 2011, Legal Counsel from 2009 to 2010, and Manager for Centralised Securities from 2007 to 2009.
She also served as Assistant Legal Counsel at Finance Bank Zambia Limited from 2003 to 2006 and as an Assistant Advocate at Shamwana and Company from 1998 to 2003.
Justice Chibbabbuka currently serves as Chairperson of the Zambia Law Development Commission. She is a member of the Zambia Association of Women Judges, the Magistrates and Judges Association of Zambia, and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in both Zambia and the United Kingdom.
