Hon. Mrs. Justice Irene Inonge Zeko Mbewe is a Judge of the High Court, Commercial Division. She was appointed Judge of the High Court on 8th December, 2015. Justice Mbewe holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zambia and Master of Laws degrees from the University of West Indies and the University of Kent. She was admitted to the bar in 1987.
Prior to her current appointment, Justice Mbewe served as Partner at Bemvi Associates from 2006 to 2015 and I Z Mbewe Associates, Verity and May Chambers from 1996 to 2004. She also served as Legal Officer at Environmental Council of Zambia from 1994 to 1996. Justice Mbewe previously served in the then Ministry of Legal Affairs now Ministry of Justice as Assistant Parliamentary Draftsperson from 1988 to 1994 and as State Advocate in 1988. From 1987 to 1988, she served as an Advocate at Mbaluku Sikazwe and Company, a law firm.
Justice Mbewe served as Vice Chairperson of the Zambia Environmental Management Agency from 2012 to 2015. She has also served on multiple boards including the Zambia Railways Limited board, Central Board of Health, Energy Regulation Board and Ndola Central Hospital Board of Management. Justice Mbewe also served on the Technical Advisory Standing Committee of the Environmental Council of Zambia and the National Construction Council.
Justice Mbewe is a member of the Zambia Association of Women Judges and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
