HON. LADY JUSTICE SUSAN MTONGA WANJELANI

PROFILE

Hon. Lady Justice Susan Mtonga Wanjelani is a Judge of the Court of Appeal, appointed on 27th May 2026. Prior to her current appointment, she served as Judge-in-Charge of the Economic and Financial Crimes Division of the High Court.

Justice Wanjelani was appointed Judge of the High Court on 12th May 2016. She holds a Master of Laws Degree in Commercial Law from the University of Cape Town, a Post Graduate Diploma in Legislative Drafting from ZIALE, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zambia. She was admitted to the Bar in 2004.

Prior to her appointment to the Bench, Justice Wanjelani served as Deputy Chief State Advocate in the Ministry of Justice, where she also served as Principal State Advocate. She previously served as Senior State Advocate from 2007 to 2008, State Advocate from 2005 to 2007, and Learner Legal Practitioner from 2003 to 2004. She also served as Acting Treasury Counsel at the Ministry of Finance and National Planning from 2009 to 2010.

Justice Wanjelani has also contributed to various institutional boards, having served as a member of the National Road Fund Agency Board, the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management Board, the Quantity Surveyors Registration Board, and the Lotteries Control Board.

She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Zambia Association of Women Judges.
